25.5mm

A sarki péknél is ciki, nemhogy Belgiumban.

As you may remember I bought a complete 944 rear suspension to use the 23.5 mm torsion bars from. I was more than surprised finding 22.5mm (beetle) ones inside! Very-very strange as all the 944s came with at least 23.5mm thick bars. To make the car roll I put these bars in as a temporary solution and in extra I accidentally interchanged the left and right as realized later. This is something you surely don't want to do because the bars can break if they have to work in the opposite direction like they did it before in the past 20+ years. Due to this I started to search for other TBs and a pair of extremely rare 25.5mm thick Porsche bars popped up on ebay. They are desired parts even for the Porsche guys as were parts of the factory sport package - called "M030" option - with adjustable KONI suspeinsions. These are the thickest factory bars available for the 944.

Szerinte utcára szuper a 25.5.

I was afraid it was going to be too much spring for such a light bug but it was temptating at the same time. My logic here: I would have the heavy type4 in the back, the bug carried it's weight on the rear axle and track guys usually found the 23.5 too soft. I was asking for opinions on different forums and got positive feedbacks on the idea.

When I was driving friend's 1303 for testing the gear ratios I found the suspension very good. In that car the TBs were swapped to 27mm thick Sway-A-Way bars and liked it a lot. SAW bars are going up to 30mm but the spring rate is said to be softer compared to the original/Porsche one in the given dimension. Key finding: a 25mm Porsche is stiffer than a 25mm SAW bar, but I guess the 27mm SAW should be a close match to the 25mm Porsche. If I will find them too harsh a swap to regular 23.5 bars will happen.
